The Woodlands Centre

The Woodlands Centre commissioned by Rotherham, Doncaster & South Humber NHS Foundation Trust
Set in the wooded grounds of Rotherham General Hospital, the new facility is designed to support service users with acute mental health problems including dementia. In collaboration with Devereux Architects, Camlin Lonsdale drew reference from the woodland setting to deliver a healing landscape which intends to speed positive clinical outcomes. Consultations with service users and occupational therapists were interpreted to create a diverse and unique range of therapeutic ‘glade gardens’, designed to be safe, secure, and non-institutional in character and scale.
