Chapel-en-le-Frith

Long Lane, Chapel-en-le-Frith commissioned by Seddon Homes
Camlin Lonsdale provided masterplanning services for a landscape-led urban extension on the southern edge of Chapel-en-le Frith. The challenge was to support the town to meet it’s housing allocation while respecting the highly sensitive Peak District National Park and existing town structure.

An analysis into the topography of the town and views into the site were key to creating a scheme that appears to ‘nestle in’ to this part of the town. The design team also seized the opportunity that movement could offer to support wider benefits for Chapel-en-le-Frith’s communities; by linking amenity routes to the railway station and providing an informal public open space at the site’s most visible interface with the landscape. Camlin Lonsdale led the multidisciplinary team in the production of the resulting Design and Access Statement and the application for 105 units obtained planning approval in September 2013.
