Child-friendly Public Space Competition, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, 2015
Launched in Ukraine in May 2015 in the classic monocentric city of Ivano-Frankivsk, the main issues were centered around congestion. The aims of the project was to provide easy access and movement through the site and establish good connections from the city centre to the transport stations. This was accomplished through the strategic design of divided and balanced zones – quiet and sheltered areas for residents and active areas for other site users, stationary/changeable zones for different activities; a suitable and safe spaces for kids, young people and families. The unique design elements that reflect the history of the site were designed to attract tourists and those arriving by bus and train. The design replicates the historic character and traditional patterns; creating open and simple transitional spaces that will incorporate the needs of people of different age groups and backgrounds; and will also integrate into the existing environment which is a key element in the design strategy.
